0 It's hot and your sweaty...what to do about your hair? Wash it!!

Okay, it's summer and we all expect it to be somewhat hot and even humid but, I don't think anyone expected all of this heat! Here in South Carolina, it is hot and humid so after a walk you must take a shower. Well what about our natural hair? Well, for me I sweat a lot in my head (is that the right way to say that? In your head?) or, eh my scalp sweats a lot, especially at night. So, a sweaty scalp plus products, creams, gels equals stanky hair. I know those of you who work out a lot deal with this same problem...so what can we do about it?

Water rinses: I wash my hair with just water. I place my hair into 6-8 twists and use my detachable showerhead (get you one- $7 at WalMart) to rinse my scalp. I don't worry about my hair, I concentrate on getting the stink off my scalp.

Co-washes: If my hair is a bit dry from the sun and my scalp is smelling "special" I will do a co-wash. For this, I just leave my hair loose and apply a ample amount of conditioner through it and then rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse and rinse some more.

For me, during these hot months the styles that seem to be working best are buns (on the very top of my head), twist-outs, wash n gos and the occasional puff. Most styles like twist outs and braid outs, are afros by the end of the day and end up in buns.

Some people also suggest misting the scalp with peppermint oil or tea tree oil, this does help keep harmful stinky bacteria at bay but, for me I would rather just rinse them away. I would add the essential oils to a shampoo or make a quick rinse with them to use as you rinse your scalp.

Remember a healthy scalp helps promote healthy hair!

So what changes have you made to your regimen to combat the heat and sweat?
