Since you all know I sell hair and skin care products, I wanted to start a blog chronicling my soapmaking, body butter making, sugar scrub making adventures that don't really have much to do with hair and may be of no interest to some of you...
So, if you all want to see tutorials of how to make soaps (shampoo bars), body butters, sugar scrubs, etc. Please come check out my other blog: DIY Skin Care Products!!
Please be sure to follow and keep up to date with what's going on with the store, coupons, deals, etc. :)
Thanks,
Jarmelia

0 Being An Educated Consumer- Reading Product Labels
DIY Hair Care Products |
Lots of companies use terms and ingredients that could be leading you to pay more than you should for some products or purchasing products looking for results that aren't possible to achieve.
We are going to break down some of these terms and go over "label appeal" to help you all make better decisions when purchasing products.
1. "Hair Growth Serum"- Any product claiming to "grow" your hair that you do not take internally, is lying to you. There is nothing you can put "on" your hair to help it grow faster. There are some supplements that can be taken orally that can help with hair & nail growth but, again these have to be taken internally.
2. "All natural" "Organic"- Many companies big and small alike are using this on their labels to bring in health conscious customers. In reality, what many companies mean is "This product may or not contain a few organic, natural ingredients!". If the product is water based than that alone should let you know, it is not 100% natural because it will (should) have some form of synthetic preservative. Also, some companies contain artificial fragrance (these are chemical based) but, will not list this in the ingredients, this will also keep a company from being 100% natural. ( I am all for the use of preservatives and love many synthetic fragrances)
3. Essential Oil Claims- Not all essential oils are created equal. One brand of tea tree oil may be more potent or beneficial than another brand. Also, in some products the amount of essential oil needed to be of benefit would make the product extremely expensive so many companies go for lesser essential oils that may not be as potent. Also, when purchasing products be sure that the company hasn't mixed fragrance oils with essential oils to give a stronger smell. It is known that many essential oils wear off over time, especially in soaps and become very faint. To counteract this some companies will add fragrance oils.
All in all, be weary of most companies big and small. If it seems to great to be true, like finding argan oil for $1.99 at your local beauty supply store, than more than likely it is. If you purchase a product claiming to be 100% natural and it smells like cupcakes...it probably has fragrance oil in it.
So just be a conscious consumer and choose your purchases wisely. I am all for natural products (I should be since I use and sell them!) but, some companies are just out to make a buck and don't care anything about being honest or your health.

0 DIY Skincare- Solid Sugar Scrub Recipe
Has anyone else been noticing these cute little sugar cubes lately, besides me? I think they're adorable but, I was having a hard time finding a recipe for them that I liked. Here is one I found that fits my expectations.
I found this recipe on the awesome Soap Queen Blog: Solid Sugar Scrub Tutorial
Here is the recipe:
Read the directions on how to mix all of these ingredients on her blog: http://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/soaks-and-scrubs/scrub-into-spring-solid-exfoliating-scrub-tutorial/
If you make this let me know how it turns out! I don't have any cocoa butter so I plan to use either mango butter or shea butter or both!
I will let you all know how this turns out! If it turns out great, solid sugar scrubs will be added to our store: DIY Hair Care Products

0 Natural Hair Sorority, Yay or Nay?
So, I was reading another blog <Confessions of a Blog Vixen> and she was talking about a natural hair sorority. Say what? A natural hair sorority? Yes ma'am...a sorority for natural hair. Pause.
Okay, so I went to the Facebook page to see what it was all about here is the page: http://www.facebook.com/NaturalHairSorority
And here is the pledge:
As a member of the Pi Nappa Kappa Natural Hair Sorority, I pledge that:
1. I am a smart, special, valuable person!
2. I respect myself and I respect others.
3. My words and actions are kind and honest.
4. I will respect the dignity and essential worth of all individuals.
5.I will promote the diversity of opinions, ideas, hairstyles and backgrounds which is the lifeblood of the sorority.
6. I will promote a culture of respect throughout the natural hair community.
7. I will not tolerate bigotry, discrimination, violence, or intimidation of any kind.
8. I will practice personal integrity and expect it from others.
9. I will always be proud of my natural born hair.
10. I accept only my best in all I do.
I am PROUD to be ME!
Would I pledge? No. Why not? I just think this is going a bit too far. At the end of the day, it's just hair (well to me it is) and I don't need to join a sorority to accept my natural self.
I do enjoy natural hair groups, forums and blogs where I can talk to other women about natural hair but, to pledge to keep my hair natural forever? No thanks. I might relax in the future, that's my choice and it won't mean I don't love myself. (I don't plan on relaxing, just saying) I do like the overall idea of having a natural hair sorority but, it's just not my thing.
What do you think? Would you join?
Here is the website to sign the pledge: http://www.pledgebank.com/PiNappaKappa
The sorority name is called: Pi Nappa Kappa <I don't even know what all that means...did they call me nappy? j/k >

0 Stop the TWA madness!!
Okay so you just Big Chopped and have about 3-6 inches of hair. What to do? What to do? What natural hair styles can you do with your new short do?
I see this question time and time again and it baffles me each and every single time.
Listen, if you have TWA (teeny weeny afro) here are some tips for you:
- Let it be!- This is going to be one of the only times while you have naturally curly hair that you will be able to literally wash and go. No inbetween steps, not scrunching, no plopping, no 3 different gels, pomades, creams and butters. Enjoy being able to wet your hair, apply some product and GO!!
- Curls are cute!- There is really no need to try and 2 strand twists on 3 inches of hair. Really. Just wear your curls. Add a few accessories and be done with it. No need to try twist-outs and braid-outs, they will just fluff right back out.
- Don't trim!- If you just did a big chop and have a TWA wait atleast a year to trim anything off. You shouldn't have any splits, breakage or thin ends.
- 3 Products Max!- With a TWA there is no need to be a product junkie. You literally just need to wash, condition and moisturize. With hair that is 3 inches, it should just take 2 mins. to remoisturize your hair. Do not worry about achieving 2nd day hair...
- Finger comb!- Just running your fingers through your afro should be sufficient enough to get out any tangles or knots.
Enjoy being able to keep it simple! You will only be able to be so carefree for about a year, afterwards get ready for the 1 hr. detangling sessions and the wash (condition, plop, seal, shingle) and go!

0 Jung Ryeo Won attended the press conference of Pain
Jung Ryeo Won attended the press conference of Pain along with co-star Kwon Sang Woo on August 19, 2011 at Seoul Lotte Cinema located in Jeonnong-dong, Dongdaemum-gu.
She wore a beaded sleeve top from 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall/Winter 2011 collection with a pair of leather shorts and black suede wedges. Accessorizing her look with silver jewelries.
I love it on her, happy to see her pair the top with a pair of shorts as I wouldn't expect her to wear trousers or the jumpsuit seen on the runway.
