Beautystylist Tom Sebastian, bekend van zijn haarproducten en tassenlijn, heeft nu ook zijn eerste haarsalon in Nederland geopend. Daarnaast komt hij binnenkort met een speciale haarverzorgingslijn.


Dit vertelt hij aan BeautyJournaal tijdens de opening van het schoonheidsinstituut van Evelien Leijten in Chaam. Deze schoonheidsspecialiste van het Jaar 2010 opende afgelopen week een nieuw onderkomen in een ruim bemeten villa.

Via de Technische Modevakschool, Yves Saint Laurent en Nina Ricci vertrok Tom naar het buitenland: hij werkte in Amerika bij grote modehuizen en bladen als Harpers Bazaar, Tatler en Vogue. In Nederland is hij bekend door zijn vele werk voor een breed scala aan bladen, zijn beroemde clientèle en zijn kracht om vrouwen te laten stralen voor de camera. Zijn jarenlange ervaring in de beauty industry heeft Tom samengebracht in een drietal leerzame cursussen bij het NTI: visagie, haarstyling en modestyling.

Kwaliteit
Het is de eerste in wellicht een reeks van salons die geopend gaan worden, aldus Tom. Ook brengt hij in het najaar een cosmeceuticallijn uit voor het haar. Met als doel de kwaliteit van de haarwortels weer beter te maken, waardoor het haar er gezonder uit gaat zien.

Deze lijn wordt in zijn zaak gebruikt, maar zal verder als eerste in Duitsland uitgerold gaan worden. Tom is daar ook betrokken bij een tv-programma, waarover hij verder nog geen nadere details wil geven.

Hij verklapte eveneens dat hij in Rusland betrokken is bij de introductie van een lingerielijn voor vrouwen.

0 Areas I want to go "greener" in

I said in my intro that I am a light weight green person meaning, I'm probably not green enough to have one of those catchy names like "environmentalist" or whatever the new one is these days... BUT I'm still a little green.

I decided to make a list of things I would like go greener in, as I get better in these areas I will cross the items off the list.

1. Cloth Snack Sacks (found some cute ones on Etsy that have nylon here)
2. Glass food containers. I now have plastic and I have been hearing some awful things about the hormones in them. I would like to move away from it completely. 
3. Unpaper towels (check them out here) {sorry I will not be using unpaper toilet tissue, no thanks.}
4. Cloth baby wipes (I just need to get a pack of baby wash cloths)
5. I would like to try to make my own soap. And I made laundry detergent! Yeah!
6. Cloth menstrual pads (Check out my review of Gem Cloth)
7. Various sized reusable bags to use instead of using grocery bags.

My main reason for wanting to be "greener" is not so much to save the environment although that is important to me, I want to be a bit more self sufficient. I know I have a loooong way to go but, in the case of an emergency I want to still be able to provide for my family. I know in the long run the more I learn to do on my own, the more money we will save as well.  ( I hope that makes sense)

I have always liked to craft and design but, I never thought I would enjoy making things for my family as much as I do. 

If you're wondering why sewing clothing isn't on the list.... *ahem* I don't really like sewing clothing. If it involves reading a pattern and cutting out a million pieces...no thanks.

0 Cloth Diapering: Flats

So, I told you all that I had placed an order with Sew Crafty Baby (whom I love) and it came in on Saturday as expected. It took no longer than 3 days to arrive. I placed my order on Wednesday and I had it 3 days later, isn't that great shipping? Love it.

Well anyway, this time I ordered a dozen flats. If you don't know what flats are; flats are exactly what they sound like. They are a big piece of woven fabric.

I ordered the OsoCozy brand. I have never tried flats before. I usually use pre-folds and pocket fitteds that I made myself with the Rita's Rump Pattern (free online). I used this youtube video by TheGraceDiaries: found here on how to fold a flat and snappi it.

So far it has been going well for me. I just need to work on getting the leg gussets tighter. The crotch area is a little loose and poo isn't contained well enough because of it. I'm sure I will get the hang of it soon.

My washing routine:

• I use the Cold Soak Method. Which is where you put the dirty dipes in a pail with cold water (I add a bit of baking soda) and let them soak until you wash them. 
• I wash my dipes after 1-2 days. (usually no more than 6-7 dirty dipes)
• I use about a 1/8 of a cup of washing detergent, maybe a bit less.
• I do a cold wash; no detergent- then a hot wash with detergent- and then a cold wash; no detergent.

I haven't had any problems thus far with stains or stink. Being that my daughter is a toddler (18 months) her poo is very solid and very smelly and with this method her dipes come out clean.

For me, folding flats does not take any longer than stuffing pockets. You can even leave them unfolded and fold them when you're about to use them. I have tried both ways and when I am in a crunch for time, I just fold them as I need them. 

I will admit, I do prefer pre-folds better just because they are a bit easier to get a snug fit with and I love the softness.

I find flats to be very absorbent but, they do need an insert. I use an infant pre-fold folded in thirds. This seems to last for about 2-3 hrs. depending on how much my daughter has drank. In a 12 hour period I find that I don't usually use more than 5-6 dipes so a dozen flats are enough for us. 

I do not use cloth a night...yeah I know. I am too lazy to search for the perfect night time diaper. 

I use Thristies covers that I also got from SCB. I have been using a medium since DD was about 6 months old and they fit perfectly. I don't think we will go to a large; the sizes do seem to run big but, they have cross over velcro (Aplix, I think it is called) so if it's too big you can lay one flap over the other.

Need to cloth diaper on a budget? Get flats. Plus you won't have to deal with stripping or stink issues.

0 Blog hops and Link ups...my thoughts

Sigh.

Today was the first day I entered my blog into blog hops and link ups. For those who may not know what those are, they are opportunities for you to gain followers to your blog, facebook or twitter. You follow someone and they follow you back, simple right? Well, after I started doing it I began to wonder if this was me... I am not one to get deep on things, I'm really not but, I want to do this blog right. I know it has potential to be amzaing if I play my cards right. I want this blog to become what I want it to become; I have a purpose.


Well, as I was "liking" and "following" blogs and Facebooks, I began to feel uneasy. I was following people just so they could follow me back. I went to some of the blogs and although the content was nice, they weren't blogs I would really care to read about on a daily basis through GFC (google friend connect). I am sure others were doing the same; not really caring about the blog itself they were following but, moreso the follow back to boost their page rankings. 


This doesn't feel right to me. I want people to follow me because they like my blog. I want people to "Like" me on FB because they want to read what I have to say and I want to do the same for them. I have no problem with someone thinking my blog isn't their cup of tea, great, move on to the next one. I would much rather have 3 followers who love what I write than 100 followers who couldn't care less.


I didn't get much followers or "Likes" and I am actually glad. I want to get people to my blog the old fashion way, I suppose. I think I will continue to blog hop but, I will only be following blogs I genuinely want to read and have an interest in. I will be sticking to blogs similar to mine so I can learn and grow. I guess this is a lesson learned for me. I don't want to be "just any old blog"...


Just a few thoughts rumbling around in my head....
